The following links come by way of Anne Williams, a member of the writers group.

All writers should have this website listed in their "favorites"

Through it I reached the excellent online version of Roget's Thesaurus at
http://www.ai.mit.edu/people/wessler/outline

I reached it through http://www.yourdictionary.com/.

Another good site I reached this way was www.bibliomania.com. It's tricky to figure out how to use this one, but worth the effort. Among other things it has a fabulous search engine ... searches hundreds of books for any word you can think of.

This link is to the Pend Oreille County Library District
and it is another dandy. I have used it for a quick reference
several times, and it quickly gets the information I'm
looking for to my screen.

Metaline Falls Memories from Lillie Rogich Gaul

Sharing my special memories of Metaline Falls at the holiday time, was first Sam Anchell arriving in Metaline Falls from Seattle. He would drive up in his big black car and have gunny bags of toys for all of us. It was really an impression that stays with me. All of us were so appreciative of the gifts that received and also looking forward to him returning the next year. For the times, the gifts were small, but was so big to all of us.
The other part that I remember was getting bundled up to go to the community Christmas tree and wait for Santa to arrive. He had a busy schedule at the post office getting the mail sorted and out, but Mrs. Santa (Mrs. LaSota) always helped him get ready for the big event. His suit was always so fresh and clean and every hair on his head and beard was in place. Blackie Martin drove a sleigh pulled by his horses and it was really something else. I went through this and then my children, Tim and Bobbi got the same moment. Also later when we had a new Santa (George Launer) he would come to our homes and wish us Happy Holidays. If you don't think that was something else!!!! We always had goodies for him and he would report in to Mrs. Santa Claus of his location and that he was headed to Pend Oreille Village, next. This was really a important thing in growing up in Metaline Falls area, as with the mine industry, there were some lean times, when the mine cut to four days a week and we all thought that we would not exist, but we did. Just appreciate the things that we had more. Funny, when you have less money and less material things in life, that it is the best years of your life.
