His wife was a Navy WAVE in World War ll and both his sons were Navy veterans abroad aircraft carriers during Viet Nam.
Luhr spent some time working in the woods for Diamond Match, on construction jobs locally, and when Box Canyon Dam was built he worked on the rock crew. When it was completed, he was hired and worked on the dam until after 27 years he retired to farm the Three Mile Creek Ranch. One of his achievements that gave him much pride was the raising of a breeder herd of Scotch Highland cattle. In 2003 Luhr and his wife Lorraine were named to the Highland Hall of Fame for their dedication to this breed.

At this time, the family is to have a private memorial service for the family at the ranch. At a later date when weather permits, a picnic memorial will be given for his friends on the ranch.
